Photography

Real people outdoors, doing things together, beside engraving, printmaking and honest art. Photographs carry the colour of the brand. Part of the SoR design system.

Status: every photograph in the system and examples is a mood board placeholder, not cleared for public use. Use them freely in mockups and examples; replace or clear them before anything goes public.

Choose

 • People and children in real places, warm and unposed. Joy that isn't staged.
 • People carrying, making, sharing: hands, food, stones, soil.
 • Engravings, woodcuts, collage, drawing and printmaking (Doré fits).
 • Pairs: something mythic beside something ordinary and human.
 • Landscapes with weight (mountains, fields) for heroes and the night section.

Avoid

 • Glowing sunrise paintings, auras, cosmic light: the new-age look.
 • Glossy lifestyle, luxury or stock photography.
 • Too many black-and-white images together; the page goes cold.
 • Faces lit like adverts.

How images sit on the page

 • Hero: one full-bleed photograph, a soft dark scrim behind the text, a torn edge into the page. The default is stones.jpg (two women carrying stones by a lake).
 • Plates: inside a page, images are figures:
<img …>
Fig. 2Carrying stones by the lake.

, numbered in order down the page. Heroes and pathway cards are not numbered.
 • Prints: a photo laid on the page sits on a white mount, slightly rotated (.print).
 • Crops: 4:5 for pathway cards and selected work, 3:2 for statements and events, 4:3 for prints.

Open

Joyful photographs with people and children are the top open need. Credits and image-rights rules are still to write.
